Location: Vapi Industrial Estate (GIDC), Gujarat, India

The study brings out the various ways in which the present conditions can be enhanced using different attributes and latest technology whichcan be integrated in the planning, design, development and management of the Industrial Estate. Basically, retrofitting refers to the addition of new technology or features to existing systems.The need for this retrofitting can be seen by the lack of common infrastructure and basic services in GIDC industrial estate presently. There are major issues and environmental conflicts which create a negative impact. For the same, adequate primary and secondary data has been collected according to which the study can proceed further. Special consideration or importance has been given to the infrastructural aspects especially environment considering the need to move towards a sustainable future. The high number of industries guarantees high and advanced economic prospects in future, but this cannot be ensured for long unless there is a balance between this development and the environment.


AIM OF THE STUDY

The aim is to Create a Clean, Green, Efficient, Vibrant, Productive and Sustainable Vapiwith due thrust on People's Participation and Public-Private Partnership. To create a database of information that can be used as the reference tool for further work in Vapi. To identify and understand the factors and mechanisms that affect outcomes, by carrying out an integrated analysis of all the data.


OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

  • To create GIS based information system on industries.
  • To map existing facilities and identification of common infrastructure requirements
  • To identify pollution problem from the industry and find measures to address the issues
  • Assessment of various aspects, land use, industry and environment, socio-economic; and technical
  • To identify the demonstrative stretch for planning and design Interventions
  • To develop a design concepts for retrofitting of the Vapi industrial estate
 

3.Climate Change Adaptation for Naroda Industrial Estate of Gujarat

Location: Naroda Industrial Estate (GIDC), Gujarat, India

The study brings out the pilot intervention showcasing how the various climate change concerns are to be integrated in the planning, design, development and management of the Industrial Estates. The Stake holder Extensive efforts have been put forth by the research team for creation of the baseline, data collection (both primary and secondary), climate change assessment, Geographical information System (GIS) application Remote Sensing (RS) and preparation of the designs for the environmental management, and the climatic adaptation. The stakeholder discussions have been integral part of the whole Process.

AIM OF THE STUDY

The study aims for preparation climate change adaption plan and demonstrative design with the objectives: 1) Formulating the Climate change Assessment Framework for industrial area; 2) Preparation of base line of NIA on various sectors such as land use, Physiographic, industry, environment and socio economic; 3) Vulnerability assessment on various aspects, flood, land use, industry and environment, socioeconomic; 4) Climate change Adaptation Plans for Industrial Estate integrating various strategies and implementation possibility; 5) Identify the demonstrative area for Planning and design Interventions

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

  • Vulnerability assessment on various aspects, land use, industry and environment, socioeconomic;
  • Assessment of surface water system;
  • Preparation of strategies through consultative process, and participatory approach;
  • Preparation of Climate Change Adaptation Plans For Industrial Estate integrating various strategies and their implementation possibilities;
  • Identify the demonstrative stretch for planning and detailed design Interventions;and
  • Creating awareness and capacity building of industries, AMC and CBOs on need, framework and strategies for climate change adaptation in industrial estate.
